Enhance Your ODS, Macro Language, and SAS Date Handling Skills the SVSUG May 16 Meeting

Plan now to attend the Tuesday, May 16 SVSUG Meeting at the DTS (Dept. of Technology Services) Training Center from 12:45 to 4:45 pm. This free event will feature five presentations covering a wide range of SAS tools, and offers something for all SAS users regardless of your current level of experience with ODS.

The presentation line up is:

  • Creating Multi-Sheet Excel Workbooks with ODS, David Kelley, SAS Institute
  • Introduction to ODS, David Kelley, SAS Institute
  • De-Mystifying the SAS Excel LIBNAME Engine: A Practical Guide, Paul Choate, CA State Developmental Services & Carol Martell, UNC Highway Safety Research Center
  • Five Ways to Create Macro Variables: An Introduction to the SAS Macro Language, Art Carpenter, California Occidental Consultants
  • A Shift in Time: Using SAS Date Alignment Operators, Andrew Karp, Sierra Information Services

The meeting is free to attend. No advance registration is required.

The DTS (formerly HHSDC) training center is located at 9323 Tech Center Drive, Suite 100. A map is available online. As many of you already know, parking at this facility is often scarce, so please consider forming a carpool with coworkers or taking the Light Rail. The map contains details of how to get to the meeting location from the nearest Light Rail stop.

Please check the SVSUG website for PDF copies of the presentations (they will NOT be available in hard copy at the meeting location), and for additional meeting details as they become available. Also, the next edition of our hardcopy SVSUG Sentinal should be printed and mailed by SAS Institute in late April, so check your mailbox for it!

New SAS Support Forums @ SAS

In my latest copy of the SAS Technology Report (subscribe/archives), I found a mention of new support forums/discussion boards on the SAS Support site. They are brand new and not very full yet so we'll see if they prove useful. The following topics have their own forums:
  • ODS and Base Reporting
  • Integration with Microsoft Office
  • SAS Enterprise Guide
  • SAS Stored Processes
  • SAS and Clinical Trials

Volunteer at SUGI!

If you are going to SUGI, please consider volunteering to be a Session Coordinator.

David Johnson, who is the chair of the Applications Development section, has asked me to let you know that Session Coordinators are still needed for all sections. SUGI is more fun when you volunteer. Volunteers get a ribbon to hang on their name tags which makes you look important (really!) and gives you something to talk about when you meet people. Also, there is usually a nice party just for volunteers.

Session Coordinators assist with one half-day session. They do things like turning lights on and off, passing out handouts, and introducing speakers. It's an easy job. You can look at the schedule of papers on line and find the sessions that interest you.
